Blue Barron and his Orchestra

For the next 6 years, Russ records a multitude of hits for Victor Records,
makes a movie with Warner Brothers, and plays the Paramount Theatre with the Blue

Barron Orchestra. In 1939, Russ is voted one of the top 4 male vocalists in the country by Billboard Magazine.

On a dare, a young Russ Carlyle wins an amateur radio contest at Danceland in Cleveland singing with the Tommy Flynn Orchestra. Later Russ and the Tommy Flynn Orchestra play the Circle Theatre for a 2-week engagement. Ed Pepper hires Russ to sing at WJAY.
Harry Friedland takes over the Ed Pepper Orchestra, changes his name to Blue Barron, and hires Russ to lead the 3 Blue Notes.
